The standing floor is thin exactly where the coming shock will land hardest. The compensating mechanism — active policy attention and strong civic solidarity — is real, but it is racing the disruption rather than sitting comfortably ahead of it.
How AI could amplify both
Automation of platform, informal, and formal work alike can displace people who have no floor to fall back on, which is why the profile bends first toward job displacement. The specific danger is not only lost income but lost place: displacement becoming disappearance from the ecology, as people cut loose from work also lose their route to healthcare, credit, and effective participation.
