Positional signal is the discipline the distributed sensory system requires to work. Two people can report opposite things and both be accurate: a wealthy homeowner says the city is thriving; a renter says they can no longer afford to stay. The error is to ask which is the truth of the ecology —

So signal is never just a claim; it is a claim indexed to a position: who observed this, from where, under what relationship, and who is affected? That makes positional signal a far more sophisticated instrument than majority opinion, which averages exactly the differences that carry the most information — a change is often visible first, and only, to the participants standing where it begins.
